Religion - Christian Christmas - Midnight Mass

 Midnight mass is the first Christian celebration of the Nativity - the day that Jesus was born. Traditionally, this is a Catholic mass, but other Christian denominations also use the term. This year we went to a Church of England mass, and it involved holy communion - where people have a wafer and a sip of wine. This is an important ritual in Christianity - it is to remind people of the sacrifice that Jesus made, and it's a remembrance rite for his blood and body. 

Midnight mass is generally a happy celebration and carols are sung. Mummy is a baptised Catholic and said that this service was different to the ones that she grew up with in that Catholics and Christians believe communion is different. (And children aren't to have communion unless baptised and have had theior first communion).
