Science - reusable volcano build

Mummy had some old cardboard and decided to show me how materials can be changed. First we soaked the stiff cardboard so that it would become more pliable - this is a technique sometimes used in paper making where other materials can be added.

We then shaped it into a volcano shape around a washable glass jar, and then used paper mache around it. I painted it to look as realistic as possible using acrylic paints - these are plastic based so along with PVA glue, create a waterproof coating on top of the paper mache.

Now I can use it for explosions and just wash it out afterwards.

When a volcano erupts, ash and lava run down and solidify. Magma stays within the chamber of the volcano when it isn't erupting.
