This was a fun chapter. Tiffany goes to the Feegle mound and is one of the few humans to ever see the feegle and how they live. The feegle admit that they take some sheep to eat, and Tiffany gets very angry with them until she realises that this is a form of payment for the feegles protecting the sheep from crows, wolves and foxes. This was set up by Granny Aching and Tiffany begins to realise how little she knew about her grandmother.

Tiffany starts to think about a gift she once gave Granny - a painted china shepherdess ornament, that in no way reflected granny Aching. A typically romanticised version with a flowing dress and ribbons. This chapter focuses a lot on what is real and what isn't and how those ideas and realities live side by side.

Tiffany feels a lot of shame over this gift. Tiffany suspects that giving the china shepherdess as a gift was an insult to Granny, because it'a an unrealistic depiction.

The chapter ends with Tiffany going in to meet the Kelda - the only female within the feegle tribe.
