PHSE - Christmas volunteering

This year we've decided to spend a few hours on Christmas day volunteering to help with a Christmas dinner held for people who are either lonely, elderly or unable to afford a Christmas dinner.

We decided to wear Christmas jumpers and Christmas headwear to make it more fun.

70 dinners and pudding bags for individuals were made up (we made pudding bags including puddings, custards, chocolate yule logs, biscuits, selection boxes, oranges and sweets and mince pies). A further 30 people came for lunch at the masonic Hall.

We met lots of lovely people and they had a great time. We did the early shift (11-1) but Niamh got to see some of the people coming for lunch. A large number was people with additional needs who were alone, elderly people and a large number of refugees including children. I think this was a great way of teaching Niamh that Christmas should always be about helping others primarily.
