Animal Welfare
Animals have no choice about how they are treated and they deserve to be looked after and cared for. Humans have a responsibility to all animals, even those that are not their pets. The UK has one of the best systems for reporting animal abuse.
Dogs are bred to look a certain way and this causes health issues and pugs and bulldogs can hardly breathe and often require surgery and yet people still breed them in this way, despite knowing about the health issues this results in.
The RSPCA doesn't know about every single beating, shooting, burning, stabbing or mutilation so if they don’t know about all of them, their statistics are not entirely correct. What they do know, is that there are about 2.7 million dogs and cats are killed every year because shelters are too full and there aren't enough adoptive homes.
There’s around one animal beaten every hour, nearly three animal killings each day and almost one hundred animals callously abandoned each day. Twelve animals are brutally mutilated every week and they also receive over ten calls per hour. Dogs, horses and cats are the most abused animals in the UK. These are people’s most common pets which means their owners are the abusers.
