Tiffany knows the Queen can control dreams through her pet dromes and tries to escape with Roland. She runs too far, in what she thinks is a straight line, and ends up back with the queen.

Tiffany reminds herself to consider what is real while the Queen is threatening her with pain and torture, and she realises the Queen isn't actually very clever. The Queen doesn't have to be because she relies on the dreams to control people.

Tiffany hears a feegle voice and knows where it's coming from - one of the nuts being cracked by someone. She whispers to Roland to crack the last nut and distracts the Queen by kicking her in the leg. The Queen is furious but suitably distracted as Roland cracks the nut, and feegle come pouring out, fighting themselves and everyone else.

The queen disappears and the feegle and Tiffany escape, with the feegle carrying an unconscious Roland. They try to escape and Rob Anybody is telling Tiffany to find the doorway out and she does. The doorway was in her own head and they end up back in the forest.

And realise after running, that something is following them. The Queen has sent nightmares after them and instead of laughing and joking as they usually do, the feegle are deadly serious. Rob tells Tiffany to run ahead and escape.
