Geography - village planning

Niamh was given a base to work on of a road network through a village. She was asked to include enough housing for 500 people and to think about the things that a village requires for the people who live there.

Niamh thought hard about the types of accommodation that people would need - she included an elderly care home, terraced houses for small families, larger and more expensive homes for larger/richer families and apartments. There are enough homes for the 500 people as Niamh considered how many people would live in each home. I think she's balanced families/single people/elderly people quite well.

She's dedicated land to woodland for animals and for people to enjoy nature, three communal gardens and a park for children to play and for general wellbeing.
There's a church and community hall, gym and pool for the community but also tourism.

There's a pub with a beer garden and shops include: post office and bank, sweetshop, clothing shop, cafe, newsagents, bakery, butchers, a Dr's surgery and a pharmacy. There's also a primary school for children.

She did think very hard about the placement of things - the terraced houses back onto the play park so children can be seen by parents and the school backs onto woodland so that teachers can include outdoor play in their learning.
